BEING THANKFUL

John S. Torell

November 23, 2003

This is sermon 900 since the foundation of Resurrection Life of Jesus Church seventeen and a half years ago on June 29, 1986

One of the ugliest characteristics found in the Devil is that of being unthankful. Unthankfulness can be defined as not being satisfied, always wanting more and lusting after someone else’s talents, power and properties. Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:11-18

The Devil is greedy, lusting after worship and devotion from humans, filled with deceit and lies. He is total and absolute evil, there is nothing good in him. John 8:44; 10:10; Revelation 12:7-17

Eve was subjected to the evil of being unthankful, when the Devil tempted her to become unthankful to God. Genesis 3:1-6

It was the sin of being unthankful that snared king David, when he saw Bathsheba. Instead of being thankful for what he had, he became greedy and lusted after this woman, not caring that she was someone else’s wife. II Samuel 11:1-4

It was the sin of being unthankful, that made Ahab and his wife Jezebel moved to commit murder. Greed and lust after a vineyard! I Kings 21:1-16

The apostle Paul makes it clear what God thinks about being ungrateful. I Corinthians 10:1-12

In the book of Romans, we are told what happen when men become unthankful. Romans 1:18-25

Unthankfulness is part of the ugly inherited sin nature that all men and women are born with. It is not something that a person has to develop, it is there and will grow without any help from the person. It is like a weed, it MUST BE UPROOTED AND KILLED WITHOUT MERCY! Galatians 2:16-21

Jesus has taught us how the Father thinks and what he wants from us, to be thankful! Matthew 20:1-16

The evil servant was not thankful and had no pity on his servant! Matthew18:21-35

The apostle Paul has given us the blueprint, how a Christian should live and operate on a daily basis. Philippians 4:4-23

Now is the time to think back, to start praising God for all the things he has done for us, and for all the things he shall do for us in the future, including eternal life in heaven! When are you going to start praising God and thanking him, instead of complaining about what you do not have, which you think that you should have? Philippians 4:8
