DAILY DEVOTIONAL
MONDAY AUGUST 25, 2003
(Exodus 20:1-17)
Judge Roy Moore and the Ten Commandments.
Since June 30th of this year, the Holy Spirit has prompted me to write five
reflective and prophetic Devotionals dealing with the spiritual condition of our
nation. These were all written in advance of the recent events in Montgomery,
Alabama. I want to share with you some key excerpts from these Devotionals and
then tell you what the real issue is, in regard to Judge Roy Moore and the Ten
Commandments.
"This nation began to decline in the mid 60's. That decline continued
throughout the 70's. It intensified in the "me years" of the 80's. The decline
began to occur at warp speed during the 90's, when even the President became a
symbol of our decline. As we are now 3 years into the new millennium, we are in
free-fall and I am sorry to say, things are never going to get better, only
worse." (from the June 30, 2003 Daily Devotional "God's Judgment on the United
States")
"If you would have told someone just 50 years ago, that there would no longer be
prayer in our schools, they would have called you crazy. If you would have told
someone 50 years ago, that crosses and manger scenes would be banned from public
buildings, they would have called you crazy. If you would have told someone 50
years ago, that it would be illegal to display the 10 commandments in a
courthouse, they would have called you crazy. If you would have told someone 50
years ago, that there would be major efforts to take "under God " out of the
Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We Trust" off of our money, they would have
called you crazy. However, 50 years later, these are all a reality!" (from the
July 25, 2003 Devotional "When They Padlock The Doors of the Churches in the
United States")
"The purpose of this Devotional today is to warn those who are not aware to what
extent the pro-homosexual agenda is being fulfilled and to hopefully wake up the
bloated, weak, and apathetic church that has to bear much of the responsibility
for the moral decay of our culture." (from the July 31, 2003 Devotional "The
United States, A Modern Day Sodom and Gomorrah")
"My friend, in case you aren't aware yet, we are in an all out war, a spiritual
war that we are watching play out right in front of our eyes each and every day.
Satan is NOT playing games, he is deadly serious. That is why in John 10 Jesus
told us exactly what his plan is, "to kill, steal, and destroy." If you haven't
noticed, satan is NOT afraid of God's people at all. Why? He knows they are
lazy and divided. While we sleep, satan and his minions are busy destroying
lives. While we are focused more on the things we want to do in life as
opposed to what God wants to do through our life, satan and his minions are
dedicated 100% to destroying people. While we argue amongst ourselves about
what day of the week to worship, what hymnbook to use, and what kind of flowers
to put on the platform, satan and his minions are 100% unified in their mission
to take as many souls to hell as they can. The eternal souls of people is NOT a
game." (from the August 11, 2003 Devotional "When the People of God Speak")
"Most people don't want to think of this life as a war, but that is exactly what
it is. On one side we have God, the Creator of the heavens and earth, our
Creator that loves us. The Bible says that it is God's desire that all come to
repentance and none be lost. It was God's plan from the beginning that man
spend eternity with Him. On the other side, we have satan, a fallen angel that
for this brief season we call human history, is working to drag as many souls as
possible with him into an eternity of torment in hell. This war is for the
eternal souls of every man and woman that is born." (from the August 18, 2003
Devotional "The Battle Lines Are Being Drawn")
As noble as the cause Judge Roy Moore has undertaken, the reality is, this
battle was lost over the past several decades. While this has become a great
national story and many in the Christian community have gotten involved in it,
the fact is, it is now against the law to do what Judge Roy Moore did and the
monument will end up being removed. Even if it was allowed to stay, it would
NOT change the fact that there is case law on the books that makes it illegal
for such displays in public buildings.
My concern in all of this is that the Christian community is investing an
incredible amount of time, energy, and resources into a battle that was already
lost years ago. Instead, we should be using our efforts to deal with the
ongoing agenda of those who oppose God and are working tirelessly to eliminate
Him from our culture. There are still many battles to be fought on that front,
and that is what we should be paying attention to.
What kind of battles am I talking about?
How about the right to assemble as a body of believers in our local churches.
How about the right to freely proclaim the TRUTH of the Bible and the Gospel of
Jesus Christ. How about the right to publish and broadcast the message of the
Christian faith. If you don't think that there are forces in our nation that
would like to take these rights away, you have not been paying attention.
Could anyone have ever imagined prayer in school being against the law? Could
anyone have ever imagined the Federal government would legalize the slaughter of
millions of innocent babies each year? Could anyone have ever imagined that it
would be against the law to display the Ten Commandments in a public building?
As much as I pray for Judge Roy Moore and support what he is doing in
Montgomery, Alabama, I pray that this will be a wake-up call to the Christian
community that we can't take for granted any longer even the most basic freedoms
we enjoy. Now is the time for those that God has called as spiritual leaders to
stand up. It is time for the men of God that stand in the pulpits of our
churches every Sunday, to preach the uncompromised Word of God and deal with the
issues of the day. You do not have to advocate a political party to challenge
those in the pews to get serious about electing lawmakers and judges that will
be led by the TRUTH of God's Word. While the battle over the display of a
monument like in the courthouse in Montgomery has already been lost, there are
battles being fought right now that will decide what rights we have tomorrow.
I love you and care about you so much. God did not call me to be a political
advocate, but a spiritual one. Real change does not come in books of law, but
in the hearts of men. We have been blessed in this nation to enjoy so much
freedom in sharing the message of Christ, that we have taken that freedom for
granted. The one thing that I pray that does come out of the incident in
Montgomery, is that the Christian community will no longer take even our most
basic freedoms for granted. One way we can do that is by making sure we are
active in exercising our right to vote, and working hard to elect at all levels,
men and women of God that will uphold the truth of His Word.
This is a spiritual battle my friend. The fact is, satan and those who follow
him have been working harder than we have. Never forget that this is about the
eternal souls of people. Even though he is a defeated foe, Satan's goal is to
take as many into everlasting darkness with him as he possibly can. One way to
make that happen is by limiting the voice of God in our world, and trying to
stifle those who want to share the hope of Jesus Christ with the lost. That is
why we MUST be involved in the political arena to help insure we have the
freedom to share with this lost and hurting world that Jesus Christ "is the way,
the truth, and the life."
