The
Corner
Dear Friends,
What is the greatest compliment someone has
ever paid you? I was thinking about my life and how I’ve been living it
and wondered how people will describe me after my departure from this
earth. I became a redeemed son of God at the age of five, a husband at
twenty-five and a father two years later. I am aware that I have been
building a legacy that can die with me or be passed on to further
generations. As such, I have taken an active role in introducing God to my
children. My oldest son is like a sponge, always ready to hear more and
asking for it even after a long day when I’m so tired that I don’t even
know my middle name. But it’s an investment in his future that will pay
eternal dividends which I will see one day when I get to heaven. I know
that as long as I faithfully do what God has for me, there will be a good
harvest because God is in control. (1 Corinthians 3:6-9)
Jesus didn’t come to this earth to have a
good time but with the express purpose of providing redemption for
mankind. That didn’t mean He was all business and never relaxed, because
we know He had personal friends, but He was about His Father’s business.
Jesus picked twelve men who would follow and learn from Him and in time
they emulated everything He said and did. After He had ascended and Holy
Spirit arrived, Peter and John stood preaching in the temple and the
Jewish political leaders that hated and wanted them dead took note that
“they had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13)
Most people only think they can make an
impact while they’re alive but the apostle Paul would disagree as
human beings from all walks of life have been touched by his writings
which are nearly 2,000 years old. I’m sure that if you asked Paul about
his letters back then, he would hope that it would take root with the
church to whom it was addressed. I’m sure he never imagined these letters
would be spread so far and wide. Think about it, every week in churches
around the world people are blessed by Paul’s obedience to the Holy
Spirit. Well I decided a long time ago that I don’t want to have any
regrets when I see my heavenly Father and that is my challenge to you.
Give God your very best and leave the results up to Him. He doesn’t need
you to micromanage everything; He just needs you to be obedient. (Matthew
16:24-27)
We only need to look to Jesus to see how
God wants us to live. Don’t look to those around you but keep your eyes
upon Jesus and you will never be disappointed. After all, He is the Author
and Finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 13:1-3)
So, what will people say about you?
(Matthew 5:14-16)
May God richly bless you today,
Charles Thorell
