DO YOUR EMOTIONS RULE
YOU?
Dear Friends,
The Holy Spirit was
recently instructing me about emotions and how they affect my life. The
Bible instructs us to worship God alone and to have no other gods before
us. This is not a commandment to keep us down but has been put in place
for our protection. Imagine if a person would say, “I am the boss of you
and you shall have no other bosses,” that would just be out of order and
we wouldn’t accept it. It is not for humans to be that way, but God is
in charge, so He says that to us and He certainly deserves our worship
and devotion. However, this first commandment was put in place for our
protection in the light of the emotions we experience and the fact that
we sometimes let them rule over us.
We all have emotions
and for some, they can get really out of control. God has told us that
when our emotions are placed in Him, we will be protected from damage in
that area. We will not be disappointed at all because we will be
protected from hurt by other people. It may hurt a little on the surface
but it won’t devastate us because our hope is poured into Him because He
is our one love. As a result, nothing can disappoint or move us.
“The LORD is my
rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I
will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be
saved from mine enemies.”
(Psalms 18:2-3)
That is how faith is
moved when we live in that realm of complete devotion and trust in
Jesus. Faith moves because we are completely devoted and are not double
minded. Being double minded means we have some fear on the edge because
we have other projects going on that we want fulfilled. We have to check
ourselves and make sure that our emotions and devotion are completely on
the one God who deserves all that worship. So if we have a little fear
on the edge, or if we have our own projects, we need to just die to
those and focus on the Lord. It’s one thing to say that I’m not going to
do that anymore but we really don’t have the power to have the victory
in those areas until we put our whole self, love, worship and emotions
on the one true God, and then those things will fall away because who
wants something less when they can have God!
Blessings in Christ,
