THE POWER OF THE CURSE May 17, 1998 To curse is not the same as swearing. Swearing can be part of a curse. The definition of a curse IS TO SPEAK NEGATIVE TOWARD SOMEONE OR SOMETHING! During the Old Testament times people believed that there were many gods and that each god had his own territory or his own nation. 2 Kings 17:20-41 What they did not know was that these were fallen angels (demons, evil spirits) and that they indeed rule territories. 1 Cor.10:19-22 When king Balak was facing the nation of Israel, he was looking for help in the spiritual realm. Numbers 22:1-13 When Balaam refused to curse Israel, the king wanted to move the prophet, so that he would be in a different territory. Numbers 22:14-20 This is the time when Balaam encountered the fierce angel of the Lord. V.22-35 Three times the king tried to move Balaam into a territory, where he could find a "god" that would allow the prophet to curse Israel. Numbers 22:41; 23:11-14; 27-30 A curse will bring forth the demons of fear. 1 Samuel 17:1-11 Goliath cursed and intimidated Israel for 40 days: v.16 It took a man of God to break this curse and destroy the demonic strong hold, v.39-51 King David was cursed by Shimei - 2 Sam.16:5-12 Queen Jezebel spoke a powerful curse against Elijah, and her demons put such fear into the prophet, that he ran for his life - 1 Kings 19:1-4 God had to send an angel to put strength back into Elijah - v.5-8 Nehemiah, the man of God, was sorely cursed - Neh.6:1-19 God has given man the power to speak. The gift of speaking, including writing words, or singing words ARE GOVERNED BY A SPIRITUAL LAW: THE LAW OF THE SPOKEN WORD! Here is how it works: When we speak according to what God tells us to speak, we line up with the Lord. When we speak according to what Satan tells us to speak, we line up with Satan. Matt.12:36-37 The goal of the Devil is to make people CURSE GOD! Job 1:11; 2:5 When we complain, moan and groan, we are glorifying the Devil. Jesus told us how to speak: Matt.5:44 Jesus showed us the power of the SPOKEN WORD: Mark 11:12-14; 20-24 Not forgiving people is to curse them, and this curse will turn back on the person holding the grudge! Mark 11:25-26 Remember this: We are in a spiritual war - Eph.6:10-17 And our weapons are mighty and spiritual: 2 Cor. 10:3-5 As a church, let us daily and in complete agreement break all the curses spoken against us as church and as individuals. Matt. 18:18-20 Are you saved? Are you walking with the Lord? |
