WHAT
HAPPENED TO THE 120?
September
6, 1998
At the time when Jesus walked on the
earth, the land of Israel was under the iron occupation of the
Roman Empire. The Sadducees, (a Jewish political party)
cooperated with the Romans, while the Pharisees tolerated the
Romans. A super right wing group called "Zealots" where
constantly plotting to rebel and throw the Romans out. It was at
this time and under these circumstances that Jesus was born in
Bethlehem.
During the ministry time of Jesus, which lasted for about 3.5
years, some 30,000 persons followed him on a daily basis. But
only 120 stayed with Jesus. John 6:59-71
The night that Jesus was arrested, even the 120 left him. Matthew 26:55-56
At the cross five of them came back and stood with Jes: his
mother Mary, his aunt, two other women, and the apostle John. John 19:25-27
IT WAS THE RESURRECTION that broke the gloom and doom over
the 120, and brought them great joy. Luke 24:1-53
Then the risen Christ walked with them for 40 days. Acts 1: 1-3
Jesus gave them a GREAT PROMISE at his departure
for heaven. Acts 1: 4-11
The promise became a reality on the
Day of Pentecost. Acts 2:1-21
THE GOSPEL WAS BORN! Acts
2:32-47
KNOW THIS:
1. The world is always in
turmoil, or facing turmoil, or just coming out of turmoil!
Luke 21:8-18
2. There are always going to be
poor people on the earth. Deut.15:11; Matt.26:6-13
3. There will always be personal
upheavals among people. John 16:33
4. Jesus did not focus his
ministry on how to drive the Romans out of the land, neither
did he focus on feeding the poor, neither did he focus on all
the sick people around Him. Jesus did help the poor and he
did heal the sick, but his focus was to provide ETERNAL
SALVATION for all people of the earth. John 3:16-18
5. God transcends human events and wants to lift his people up to his level.
Isaiah
55:1-13
Jesus is calling us today to
come and receive his eternal rest, so that we may do the
will of God in our lives! Matthew 11:28-30
