HOW TO
SURVIVE IN A PAGAN CULTURE
November
1, 1998
Christians living in the
world today are facing the problem, how to survive in a pagan
culture and stay pure. We need to first ask this question: WHAT
DOES GOD SAY?
God spoke to Moses and said : You shall have no other gods before
me...Exodus 20: 1-5
God told Moses what the
people should do, when they entered the land of Canaan. Do not
learn the ways of the pagans! Deuteronomy 18:9-13
Is it important to obey God, or does God give us some slack? The
answer is: God does not give any slack! He will either bless
you or curse you. Deuteronomy 28:1-68
(This sermon does not deal with salvation, Salvation is a free
gift- Ephesians 2:8-10, we are now dealing with our walk on planet
earth)
The Christian (born again
believer in Christ) is facing three choices. He can either adapt
to the culture he is living in -ASSIMILATE, Or he can try
a lesser evil, COMPROMISE, or he can reject the culture (world). RESIST Satan and walk with God in faith, totally
trusting that God shall take care of him. Daniel 3:13-18
ASSIMILATION
King Ahab made his choice, he rejected God and become a
Baal worshiper: I Kings 16:30-33
Ahab worked hard to sin and to provoke the Lord, God sent the
prophet Elijah to him. I Kings 21:17-26
God's Word prevailed, the dogs licked the blood of Ahab - I Kings
22:34-38; and a number of years later the dogs ate the body of
Jezebel- 2 Kings 9:31-37; and his entire family was eradicated
from the earth -
2 Kings 10:6-11
COMPROMISE
When Solomon became king, his father David told him what to do: I
Kings 2:14 But it did not take long for Solomon to compromise - I
Kings 3:1 and from here on it went downhill for Solomon, until he
was rejected by God. 1 Kings 11:1-9
RESISTING
Joseph rejected the whorish woman- Genesis 39:5-20
Moses rejected a life in the Egyptian palace - Hebrews 11:23-29
Daniel rejected the culture of Babylon - Daniel 1: 1-21
JESUS SAID: YOU CANNOT SERVE TWO
MASTERS! Matthew 6:19-24
Your walk on this earth will have eternal consequences for you!
Hebrews12;15-29
Which one of the three
choices have you selected? You cannot be neutral! If you have not
made a decision with your mind, you have made a choice by the way you live.
IS JESUS PLEASED WITH YOUR CHOICE?
