REVIVAL?
PART 6
John S. Torell

A TEACHING SERMON
In order for us to understand what a
true revival is, we must begin by asking two questions?
1. Are you willing to be corrected? Proverbs
9:6-12
2. Are you hot or lukewarm? Revelation
3:14-19
We are exhorted to be like
minded with Christ - Philippians
2:1-5
Have you left your first love? Revelation
2:1-7
Do you really love Jesus? John 14:15
King Solomon died a Satan worshiper - 1
Kings 11:1-9
(Reigned for 40 years, son of David)
King Rehoboam allowed sodomites to operate at the temple in Jerusalem
(Reigned for 17 years, grandson of David, third generation)
King Abijam was a wicked king, married 14 wives
(Reigned for 3 years, great grandson of David, fourth generation)
King Asa started with God, but ended his life as an evil man
(Reigned for 41 years, fifth generation after king David)
THE ROAD TO REVIVAL
King Jehoshaphat
- Sixth generation of king David (101 years after king David)
This man started out great - 2
Chronicles 17:1-6; but he did
not fully remove all idolatry from Judah. He had respect for the Word of God,
and made sure it was taught to the people of Judah - 2
Chronicles 17:9. But after he
had reigned for some years, he became spiritually
blinded and joined the wicked
king Ahab,
king of Israel in a military mission. 2
Chronicles 18:1-5 Once the
battle started, Jehoshaphat’s life was spared, but Ahab was killed. 2
Chronicles 18:28-34 Coming
back from this disaster, he moved closer to God and gave the people of Judah
justice through its court system. 2
Chronicles 19:1-11 Turning to
God, Judah won a great victory - 2
Chronicles 20:1-32 But
the king was not able TO REMOVE THE TRADITIONS OF IDOLATRY FROM THE PEOPLE OF
JUDAH! THEY STILL WENT WHORING AFTER OTHER gods!
Verse 33 Instead
of ending his life in great victory walking with the Lord God, the king pulled a
political stunt and joined forces with the current king of Israel, who was more
than wicked. The result was a disaster, when the fleet of Judah broke up in the
sea and the sailors died. 2
Chronicles 20:34-37 Despite
some great victories in his life and having experienced answered prayers from
God, Jehoshaphat died as a "fool," having learned nothing!
King Jehoram
- Seventh generation of king David (126 years after King David)
This king was the seventh king in Jerusalem after king David and he reigned for
8 years. A very wicked man. Murdered all his brothers and a number of Jewish
nobles in order to consolidate his political power. He married the wicked
daughter of King Ahab and Jezebel, who introduced Baal worship in Jerusalem. He
forced young Jewish girls to become temple prostitutes, in the horrible rites of
the pagan goddess, Ashtoreth. The prophet Elijah, who lived in the northern
kingdom of Israel sent him a message from God, pronouncing judgement, and the
king died of a horrible decease. 2
Chronicles 21:1-20
King Ahaziah
(also known as Jehoahaz) - Eighth generation of king David (134 years after king
David)
This king reigned only one year over Jerusalem, when he was killed. He had been
trained in the pagan worship of Baal by his own mother, Athaliah. He joined
forces with the wicked king of Israel at that time, Jehoram and God only allowed
him to reign for 1 year, before he was slain by the sword. 2
Chronicles 22:1-9 His wicked mother
Athalia through murder and dirty politics took power over Jerusalem and reigned
for six years as "queen," and then she was executed 141 years after
king David. 2 Chronicles 22:10-12
The judgment from God on king David’s
descendants continued 141 years after his death - 2
Samuel 12:7-14
Today we can be set free from generational
curses through Christ - Galations
3:13-14 But each believer in Christ
must apply this in his own life, it does not come automatically, when we receive
Christ as our Lord and Savior!
