John S. Torell November 2, 2003 When the children of Israel had been in Egypt for 430 years (Exodus 12:41) they had become greatly oppressed by the Egyptian government and they cried out to the Lord for help - Exodus 2:23-25 God had a plan for his people, not only to take away the oppression, but to deliver them out of Egypt! Exodus 3:1-10 Moses knew the mind set of his people, they were stubborn and rebellious Exodus 2:11-14 Moses was not excited about being part of this deliverance, and he made this known unto God in arguing every point that God had spoken - Exodus 3:11-22; 4:1-17 THE LEADERS OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL AND THE RANK AND FILE OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL HAD NO DESIRE TO BE TAKEN OUT OF EGYPT, THEY ONLY WANTED THE OPPRESSION TO BE TAKEN AWAY! Exodus 5:14-21 The nation of Israel at the time of Moses became angry, bitter and resentful toward Moses and God, they resented being taken out of Egypt - Exodus 14:10-12 Time and time again they cried out in anger - Exodus 16:1-3; 17:1-4; It did not take long for them to fall back into sexual sins and idolatry - Exodus 32:1-35 Finally, God had enough, when the ultimate rebellion took place: Numbers 13:25-33; 14:1-4 GOD WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL OUT OF EGYPT, BUT THE PEOPLE REFUSED TO HAVE EGYPT TAKEN OUT OF THEM! Therefore they could not enter into the Promised Land! Numbers 14:5-38 Of 600,000 men coming out of Egypt (Exodus 12:37), only two were allowed to enter the Promised Land! That is 0.00003% - Joshua 14:6-13 The people coming out of Egypt were never in love with God, they were in love with themselves, they had no desire to love God, ALL THEY WANTED WAS FOR GOD TO MEET THEIR PHYSICAL NEEDS AND THEN LEAVE THEM ALONE! 1 Corinthians10:1-12 It is hard to lead a person to Christ and salvation - Matthew7:13-14 Many Christians are pleased with going to heaven when they die, but they have no desire to get out of Egypt. James 4:1-4 Fewer Christians yet seek deliverance from demonic oppression and when they have been delivered from demonic oppression, MOST HAVE NO INTENSION OF GETTING OUT OF EGYPT! Ephesians 4:20-32; 5:1-18 One of the first demons to attack a freshly delivered Christian is PRIDE! It does not take long before the person begins to assert himself and start to criticize the people who prayed him through deliverance. Thankfulness and humbleness is flying out the window. Conviction over sin is slipping away. Slowly at first, the person is walking back to Egypt, hotly justifying every step back into bondage! It is hard to keep your deliverance. WHAT SHALL WE DO? The apostle James has laid it out for us - repent and humble yourself before God! James 4:5-11 Then cry out to God mightily and seek his face with all your soul and spirit! Revelation 3:14-22 Do you have an ear to hear with? |
