John S. Torell March 7, 2004 The Christian of 2004 is like a man who went out and purchased a brand new automobile and then also purchased a horse. Instead of starting the engine and letting it propel the car, he hooks up the horse in front of the car, rolls down the window on the driver’s side and then use the horse to drag the car. As Christians we need to be radically honest with ourselves, we do not have a lot of spiritual power and we are using our human resources to try to do the works of the Lord. We sing our songs, share our testimonies, preach sermons, give invitations, but not much is happening. Few sinners are coming to Christ and the community around us do not even know that we are here. Listen to these words of Jesus: Acts 1:1-8
What is the secret to have this kind of power?
The secret is to abide in Jesus! John 15:1-14 Jesus spoke and said, that if a man really wants something, he will do all he can to get it. Matthew 13:44-46 When a young man finds a young woman he really wants to be his wife, he will go after this woman with all his might. He will drop all interest in all other women, devote all his time to court the woman of his love, promise her anything she will ask for. He will call her, give her gifts, take her out for dinners and trips, talk with her, show her respect, open doors for her, pull out chairs and help her to get seated, nothing is too small or big for him. Finally, he will ask the question when he has done all this work, Will you marry me? If we want the power of God in our lives, we must understand that we cannot have this without Jesus. He is the Groom, we are the bride. Christians are many times in love with miracles, power, money and fame. God loves us and he does not want to share us with anyone! Exodus 20:1-6 When Jesus called Peter and Andrew, there was no hesitation - Matthew 4:18-20; Mark 1:14-18 When Jesus called James and John, there was no hesitation - Matthew 4:21-22; Mark 1:19-20 When Jesus called Matthew, there was no hesitation - Matthew 9:9-13; Luke 5:27-32 When Jesus found Philip, Philip found Nathanael - John 1:43-51 The twelve apostles, except Judas Iscariot, had one thing in common, they loved God, they believed that Jesus was the Messiah and they were determined to do the will of God, regardless of the cost in their personal lives. John 6:60-71 Every human being has been called to be saved - John 3:16; I Timothy 2:1-6 Each man can accept or reject the greatest offer in the entire universe - Revelation 22:16-17 ARE YOU IN LOVE WITH GOD AND HIS SON JESUS CHRIST? When God created Adam and his wife Eve, they were made in the image of God and created specifically to be able to receive agape love from God and in return love God back and walk in obedience:
God did not select Abraham, a Chaldean from the land of Babylon, because he was great or powerful, but because he loved this man and his offspring - Deuteronomy 7:6-9 Satan wants to stop man’s love from being directed toward God, and to direct it to himself through lust and greed. God warned Israel about this - Deuteronomy 8:1-20 Satan tried to break Jesus and bring him in bondage - Matthew 4:1-11 Jesus warned the church in Ephesus to not forget their first love - Revelation 2:1-7 God is in love with man! John 3:14-21 The Devil hates God, mankind and all that is good and wholesome!
Jesus loved mankind more than his own life - Romans 5:1-11 The questions Jesus asked of the Apostle Peter applies to us today: DO YOU LOVE ME? John 21:1-19 You are revived when you are filled with the love of God and in return you are loving God and people around you! Do you have an ear to hear with? You
