Part 13: The Gift of Tongues (Languages) |

The Holy Spirit enabled the 120 believers in the
upper room to speak in foreign languages they did not know. This
miracle allowed visiting Jews from many nations to hear the gospel
in their native tongue and coincided with Pentecost, ensuring the
message spread through the Jewish diaspora when they returned home.
Only born again believers who have been baptized in the Holy Spirit
can receive this gift. True tongues are spontaneous and Spirit-led,
unlike repetitive phrases spoken in some churches. There are three
types of tongues given by the Holy Spirit. An earthly language that
you have never learned, a language that can be interpreted, and an
unknown language for which there is no interpretation, also known as
praying in an unknown tongue. Operating in this gift is exciting
because the Holy Spirit takes over and uses your mouth to deliver a
message, meaning you are in God’s will and He is choosing to use you
for a specific purpose. |
