We are now down
to the final quarter of 2013 and we have seen a lot of activity.
EAEC is now in its 41st year and that is both a blessing and a
liability. Many of the people who started with us were in their
40’s and 50’s and most of them have now gone home to be with the
Lord. This in itself is a success since this is the essence of
the Gospel message, but at the same time, we need replacements
for those who have gone to be with the Lord.
When we started
out in 1972, there was no Internet or electronic gadgets that
people today find so hard to live without. I realized early on
that in order to be effective as a ministry, we had to keep up
with the ever changing technology. We started with IBM
typewriters, mimeographs and crude copy machines. Our mailing
list labels were typed on our typewriters and our bookkeeping
was done by hand. We reached out with printed books and tracts,
newsletters, radio programs in 1975, The Dove magazine in 1979,
and recordings of sermons and Bible teachings on cassettes.
That old
equipment has since been replaced with computers, CD’s and
DVD’s; bookkeeping and mailing labels are both handled by a
computer. We have gone through a number of copy machines over
the years and the one we have today has the ability to produce
small booklets, pamphlets and newsletters without much human
involvement.
For the last
four years, we have been webcasting our services on a weekly
basis, reaching anyone on earth with an internet connection.
Just recently I have been able to get back into the radio
ministry via Internet radio, reaching the entire planet with
live radio broadcasts that cost a fraction of what we used to
pay for regular radio stations and covered a limited
geographical area.
SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE
Ministers are
partially exempt from regular income taxes but one thing that
has not changed is the social security tax. With the breakup of
Resurrection Life of Jesus Church in Carmichael and the
increased cost to relocate our ministry base, there has been
very little money to pay these taxes.
I made the past
due rent and a repair bill on the old church facility a primary
obligation and we were finally able to pay this debt at the end
of August and for this I praise the Lord.
But
we are still in need of your help. We have a steady group of
friends who support us every month and they are the ones
sustaining this ministry. I know some of you have been blessed
by this ministry but you have never chosen to support us
financially.
As we approach
the end of the year, we need $12,000 above and beyond the
regular giving to cover the taxes due at the end of the year. If
200 of our friends gave just $60, it would meet our need and
allow us to pay the taxes in full.
I know
thousands of you have been blessed by this ministry. Would you
take a moment to ask God what He would like you to do concerning
this matter?
You can
make an online donation or by
mailing it to EAEC, P.O. Box 166, Sheridan, CA 95681. Thank you
for being as generous as you possibly can. Your financial
investment will help us make an impact around the world as we
labor to bring the Word of God to you.
I want to
encourage you to press in towards the Lord despite what is
happening in the world. God is on the throne, there is no crisis
is heaven and He has a solution to every problem.
Yours in Christ,
John S. Torell
